What about making Pixel Worlds open source?

Since game is going to be shut down anyway, why not make source code public and let anyone continue with its development.

it would be amazing, i would love to see this thing not completly dead because I played it since 2018

because it would be stupid to give away a game worth couple million USD

if that really mattered to them, do you really think they would’ve still left the game in the dust?
I don’t know about you, but I do see money to earn

They left because they were too tired of working on a game with such a bad community and horrible programming, and that’s why the game is currently worth in the millions of single digit and not double digit. If they stayed they would’ve had to rewrite the entire code from nothing at some point.

Dude
May be have a deeper delve into whats gone down and some very, shall we say, coincidental timing from NEXUS.

  • Directly pointing everyone at Nexus in every PW media outlet, the official announcement, plus the in game notice.

  • removing all adverts then placing the sole Nexus one and the ‘early’ launch of the new game… Think of the loss in advertising revenue, especially b4 black tower when all want gems…

  • Do NEXUS want a healthy PW running alongside it? … Any proper buyer wouldn’t part with million or two and then not invest more in the game, Dev team, etc, etc. the game as is could not continue. Too many coding/hacking issues.

  • Then if all doesn’t go to plan? Out comes a PW v2 …

Nexus will do ok, new players know no different

As for us? The expression that springs to mind is “…thrown under the bus”

For commander-k to say there is no connection between the 2 games is BS .

I’ll keep my response short and sweet:

  • Open sourcing something is difficult. You can’t just drop the game’s code into GitHub and call it a day
  • Even if the devs wanted to, having only 1 programmer on the team will not help them transition to open-source before the game’s shutdown
  • Open-source projects need strong leadership to function normally. I doubt Pixel Worlds has that

Man that is the understatement of the year.

It has had no leadership for a very long time :disappointed:

But what specifically is so difficult about open sourcing it?

You can’t just run it without support. Even as open source. Still requires a server as well

Plus everything would be set back to zero.
.
Like I said I don’t believe Nexus want any version of PW competing with it’s game.

The whole game is dominated by hacking, many players trying to make real world money out of it.

Multiple worlds getting perma locked by hacks. WL makes no difference…

Nah. I wouldn’t play it again as is and I love it !

Losing all the games history is a big part of it for me…

What about private servers?

Good luck with that on a global
24/7 game. It’s needs players who know what they are doing as well

Would you really trust it?

well if you love the game that much you could reverse engineer the game’s code and set up a personal private server for yourself and maybe a bunch of friends, but it would take really good hardware and a strong internet connection

Hi Robert.
Long time no hear…
Hope you keeping well.

On that I don’t have the hardware, nor enough knowledge to take that on.

I’m really interested in the age and history of the game .

That’s all wiped in a new server. No one at Kukouri is going to manage a transfer… Plus it needs new coding…

It will be missed. :headstone:

I’ve almost given up. I got most things and more than enough bytes.

I might fish a bit as I’ve never really done that in earnest

This will 100% not happen. They want PW to be lost to time.

yes thats absolutely true, why do they email people about death of pw? because letting them know that new game is avaible. since most people quit pw meaning that they wont get the death message popup, nobody would know about new game, which is stupid enought, why would advertise something that is not yet released? this is like winamp developers who earn money from people’s nostalgia
